How Will Carbon Costs Reshape the European Steel Market? A Critical Turning Point Under Discussion at Steel Summit 2026
In the third session of Steel Summit 2026, the carbon economy one of the most critical issues directly shaping the future of the steel industry will be addressed. The panel will comprehensively examine, from a multidimensional perspective, the impact of carbon costs on competitive dynamics and pricing mechanisms in the European steel market.
As of 2026, carbon costs are expected to become one of the key factors directly influencing trade flows and price formation in Europe. Within this context, the implications of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Emissions Trading System (ETS) practices, and quota regimes for producers, importers, and Turkish-origin steel will be evaluated through a multidimensional framework. Assessments based on default and actual emissions data, together with cash cost analyses, will shed light on competitive outlooks for the 2026–2027 period.
The session will be moderated by Tayfun İşeri, Chairman of the Board of YİSAD and Board Member of EUROMETAL. The panel will also feature Alexander Julius, President of EUROMETAL and Managing Partner of Macrometal; Eftal Pehlivan, Export Sales Director at İzmir Demir Çelik; Fatih Gökçe, CSO of the Iron and Steel Group at Diler Holding; Gabriel Rozenberg, Founder and CEO of CBAMBOO; and Tsanislav Kolev, Director of Business Development and Decarbonization at NLMK Europe.
Representing the production, trade, finance, and sustainability dimensions of the industry, this strong line-up of speakers will elevate the panel beyond a conventional assessment session, turning it into a truly guidance-oriented platform. Steel Summit 2026 positions itself as a key reference point for industry professionals seeking to understand the new competitive landscape shaped by carbon costs—and to prepare for this transformation.
The panel will be conducted in English, with simultaneous Turkish–English interpretation provided.
